What Makes It Light? Seven Clear Product Boundaries

LIGHT MODEL / CLEAR BOUNDARIES

Light MES sets clear limits on business complexity while retaining essential capabilities. Requirements beyond these boundaries are assessed for Full MES or a separate project.
Batch Management
One work order represents one batch and corresponds to one job traveller.
Limit Batch splitting, merging and complex batch genealogy are outside the standard scope.
Rework Management
Record rework quantities and outcomes. Where needed, manually create a task and reference its source batch.
Limit No full rework workflow with automatic batch splitting, separate rework batches or batch merging.
Quality Management
First article, in-process and final inspection, with basic, intermediate or advanced inspection detail.
Limit Record nonconformities and outcomes; QMS workflows such as approvals, 8D and CAPA are outside scope.
Equipment, Tooling & Moulds
Basic asset registers, routine checks, work order links and accumulated usage counts.
Limit Maintenance dispatch, preventive maintenance plans, spare parts and full TPM / EAM are outside scope.
Piece-Rate Pay
Maintain a standard unit rate and allow temporary rate adjustments for individual work orders.
Limit Group piecework, tiered rates, combined pricing and complex payroll calculations require a custom MES project.
Machine Connectivity
Standard CNC, injection moulding and conventional PLC / IO data collection can be added as needed.
Limit Complex non-standard PLC modifications and extensive SCADA development require a separate technical assessment.
Custom Extensions
Extend fields, reports, dashboards, print layouts, interfaces and limited functionality within the standard model.
Limit The core Light MES data model is not changed for individual customers.
Simpler relationships. Essential capabilities retained. Light MES limits the complexity of business relationships, workflow extensions and project customisation while retaining the traceability, inspection and machine data capabilities needed on the shopfloor.

Batch and Serial Number Traceability

BATCH TRACEABILITY / SERIAL NUMBER

BASE TRACEABILITY

Batch-Level Traceability

Work Order / Batch→Job Traveller→Operation→Production Reporting→Inspection
For products that do not need individual identification, trace production through the work order / batch and job traveller.
OPTIONAL SN TRACEABILITY

Optional Unit-Level SN Traceability

SN→Operation→Operator→Equipment→Production Reporting→Inspection
Enable individual serial numbers when unit-level traceability is required. Light MES simplifies batch relationships while retaining the necessary data detail.
Unit-level SN traceability: product identity, operation history, operators, equipment, reporting, inspection results and timestamps
10

Piece-Rate Pay

PIECE-RATE WAGE

Simple piece-rate pay: unit rate × valid reported quantity

Maintain standard unit rates by operation for common piecework scenarios. For small batches, special work orders or temporary price changes, adjust the rate for that work order and calculate individual pay from valid reported quantities.

Standard Unit RateMaintain a standard rate for each operation as the basis for routine piecework.
Work Order Rate OverrideTemporarily adjust the rate for a special batch or small work order without changing the standard rate.
Valid Reported QuantityUse the operator's actual reported and confirmed valid quantity as the calculation basis.
Pay Details and SummariesTrace records by employee, operation, work order and date, with daily and monthly summaries.
Standard / Order Rate×Valid Reported Quantity=Piece-Rate Pay
